Vista Grande Science Lab

Students at Vista Grande attend the Science Lab once a week. The Science Lab provides an extension of the science education provided by the classroom teachers and gives more opportunity for hands-on inquiry learning in the realm of science.

The Science Lab teacher focuses on the Investigation and Experimentation standards for each grade level, but also narrows the investigations to help students with some of the more difficult standards.

In addition to the regular science lab experience, fourth and fifth grade students have the opportunity to participate in Science Field Day. This is county-wide competitive event held in May. Students spend the year preparing for their event(s). The events might be building something (tin can racer, a barge that holds the most weight, a paddle boat, a structures out of straws that holds the most weight, etc.) or might show their knowledge on different topics (bugs, nutrition, stars, rocks, the earth, etc.).
