OCILE
OCILE - January 19-22, 2010
(Off-Campus Integrated Learning Experiences)
There are two OCILE programs that Vista Grande and all SDUSD elementary schools participate in:
- Fourth graders go to Old Town for 1 week
- Fifth graders go to Balboa Park for 1 week
The purpose of OCILE is to offer an opportunity for students to integrate with other students at other schools, while also gaining knowledge in the history and culture of San Diego and California. The aim of OCILE is to enhance the students' understanding and appreciation of the diversity of people living in San Diego.
For both programs, students will be bussed everyday to the OCILE location. The OCILE program is not on the early start schedule, so students will arrive back at Vista Grande later than the usual dismissal time. Students should not be expected to arrive back until around 4:00pm...and this might be a different time for the upcoming school year.
Students should:
- bring a sack lunch if they wish (a school lunch will be provided if they do not)
- bring water
- wear comfortable shoes for walking
- wear the appropriate clothes for the weather
- NOT bring a backpack or other items that are not disposable
- NOT bring gum, soda, candy, electronics
- have a good attitude
If parents wish to attend for one day of the OCILE trip, arrangements need to be made through the appropriate OCILE office. You can also click on the links below to be taken to the appropriate website for more information and to download forms.
In addition to the Old Town and BalboaPark programs, OCILE will also be offered in middle school...6th grade camp!
